Alexis Mac Allister is facing the prospect of a delayed return to the AXA Training Centre following the current international window.

The Argentina international will play for his country against Venezuela in a friendly at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on Friday and was due to face Puerto Rico on October 13 in Chicago.

However events have conspired to have that fixture MOVED. Instead of taking place at Chicago’s Soldier Field, the game has been relocated to Miami and is now scheduled for October 14.

The reason for the rearrangement has been put down to social unrest in Chicago amid President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown - although it has been acknowledged that ticket sales for the game had been sluggish.

Macca's international issues continue

It’s going to have an impact on Mac Allister - who for the second time this season is facing disruption on international duty.

Back in September he missed his connecting flight and reached Buenos Aires long after his teammates - losing out on vital training sessions and having to settle for a bench role for Lionel Scaloni's side.

Arne Slot will be rolling his eyes at Argentina’s latest calamity - which means Mac Allister making his return journey to Merseyside at least 24 hours later than originally planned.

Could Macca miss out on Man Utd?

Liverpool face Manchester United on October 19 - and with Mac Allister’s itinerary changing it could mean that he sits out the grudge match.

Slot often used the first game after international duty to rotate Mac Allister last season. That in turn could mean a big opportunity for Curtis Jones to stake a decisive claim for a place in Slot’s preferred XI.

Mac Allister ended last season looking quite jaded - sitting out the last two matches of the season due to a lingering injury.

Absence could be crucial for Macca

The 26-year-old did not have the ideal preseason either and returned to the club far from his best form.

The £35m signing from Brighton back in 2023 hasn’t looked as sharp this term - and with the arrival of Florian Wirtz in the No10 position there is one less midfield slot going around.

Mac Allister will be hoping Argentina’s change of schedule won’t have too much of an impact on his club career - but there is no doubt that it may have a knock-on effect once he gets back to England.
