Athletic, coached by Alex de Souza, top the red-card table across Série A and B with nine, level with Ponte Preta, after 25 rounds. According to Globo.com, Coritiba follow on seven and Flamengo are among the top five.

Dismissals have repeatedly hurt Athletic in Série B. The latest, for midfielder João Miguel last Friday, proved costly as a 1-0 lead at Náutico turned into a 2-1 defeat at the Aflitos.

The dismissal took their season total to the joint high across both divisions. Lucas Belezi and Ian Luccas have two apiece, with Diogo Batista, Jhonatan Silva, Jota, João Miguel and Dixon Vera also sent off. Under Alex, there have been 10 reds in 30 matches, including Gian Cabzeas in the Copa do Brasil at Internacional, a 3-2 defeat that ended their run in the fifth round.

Alex regrets the tally but says each case needs context, adding that a youthful squad is still learning. He notes only 19 of his 30 games ended 11 v 11, with occasions of finishing two men down, such as against Novorizontino. Athletic sit 13th on 34 points.

Ponte Preta, on 10 points from 25 games and virtually relegated, also have nine reds, with Coritiba on seven. Flamengo have five, the same as Goiás.

Juventude lead Série B and are the only side without a red, suggesting a return to Série A in 2027 after relegation in 2025. São Paulo, Criciúma, Cuiabá, CRB, América-MG, Novorizontino, São Bernardo and Botafogo-SP have one apiece.
