Flamengo deny blocking Santos move to Morumbis for Brasileirão clash | OneFootball

Flamengo have denied preventing Santos from shifting their Brasileirão meeting to Morumbis, with the match currently set for eight October at 19:30 at Vila Belmiro.

The club said in a statement that they accepted a proposal to bring the 29th-round game forward to seven October and move it to Morumbis, then were told informally that Santos had withdrawn the request.

Santos explored the change because Palmeiras face Bahia at Nubank Parque at 21:30 on eight October and the Ministério Público de São Paulo does not allow the state’s big clubs to host matches on the same day in the city. There had been suggestions Flamengo resisted due to players returning from the Data Fifa needing extra recovery, which the club’s stance rejected.

Santos continue to assess taking other home games to São Paulo, with Bahia, Palmeiras, Grêmio and Botafogo still to come. The Bahia date on 24 October would not work, as it would clash with Palmeiras v Bragantino at Nubank Parque.

A switch to the following day would also be off if the presidential election goes to a second round. Moving to 26 October is not viable either, with Morumbis preparing for BTS concerts on 28, 30 and 31 October. Santos could only move a game to the capital in November, against Grêmio.

The CBF have not yet broken down that round, which is slated for 21, 22 or 23 November. Santos also have a pending commitment to stage a match at Morumbis under their partnership with São Paulo, who are expected to host a derby with Corinthians at Vila Belmiro due to the BTS shows.
