Algeria – AFCON 2025: “I won’t be there,” the shocking revelation!

Algeria – “I won’t take part in AFCON”: major announcement!
Amine Gouiri will not play in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco. The OM striker, currently recovering at Aspetar Clinic in Qatar after shoulder surgery, personally confirmed his withdrawal during an interview with beIN Sports. It’s a tough but deliberate decision as Algeria begins its final preparations ahead of the tournament’s kick-off on December 24.
The 25-year-old first recalled the team’s collective goal:
“Qualifying for AFCON is the least we can do. It was one of our objectives,” he explained.
Even though he won’t be on Moroccan soil, Gouiri remains ambitious:
“It’s about continuing to improve so we can achieve something during the tournament. There will be strong teams and I hope we’ll have a great tournament and rise to the challenge.”
Asked about the strength of the Fennecs’ squad, he refused to get carried away:
“The names of the teams don’t matter—all matches are tough. We have to give 100% in every game.”
He also pointed out the advantage of having AFCON hosted in Morocco:
“It’s good for us,” he hinted, well aware of the massive Algerian support expected in the stands.
“I won’t take part in the Africa Cup of Nations for the second time. That’s how it is.”
His regret is tempered by a forward-looking mindset:
“Inshallah, this decision will pay off. Patience is key. Things will fall into place for the World Cup.”
While he’ll miss another AFCON, Amine Gouiri reaffirms his total commitment to the Fennecs, convinced that this choice will allow him to return even stronger for the major appointments in 2025 and 2026.
