Algeria: Riyad Mahrez, more fear than harm!

Algeria: Riyad Mahrez, the excellent news!
There was a brief moment of concern among Algerian supporters, but the news about Riyad Mahrez has turned out to be reassuring. Absent during Al-Ahli’s victory over Al Baten in the King’s Cup, the Greens’ captain missed the match due to a minor knee injury. Hurt against Al-Najma on matchday six of the Saudi league, the 33-year-old winger was rested by his coach Matthias Jaissle, who chose not to take any risks.
According to the Saudi press, especially Arriyadiyah, the player’s injury is considered mild and will not require a lengthy absence. The club’s medical staff has advised a short rest before a gradual return to team training. It’s a logical precautionary decision for such a key player, both for Al-Ahli and the national team.
This rest comes at a crucial time, just weeks before Algeria’s November training camp. Vladimir Petkovic, who is actively preparing for upcoming friendlies against Saudi Arabia (yet to be confirmed) and Zimbabwe, can breathe a sigh of relief. Mahrez, a true linchpin in the Fennecs’ setup, will be fit for this decisive gathering ahead of the 2026 AFCON.
All signs point to this being nothing more than a minor scare. It's reassuring news for fans of the Algerian captain, whose fitness remains vital in the Greens’ pursuit of greatness as major challenges approach.
