Southampton, Ipswich Town and Leicester City return to the second tier hoping to bounce back to the top-flight.

Meanwhile, American-owned Birmingham City and Wrexham will look to use their financial resources to push up the table. Charlton Athletic will also hope of being competitive following their play-off triumph under Nathan Jones.

Over the course of the term, goalkeepers from across the 24 clubs will be aiming to showcase their quality and earn their team points.

With this in mind, FLW lists and ranks each club’s main goalkeeper out of 10, as per the opinion of AI.

Birmingham City – Ryan Allsop – 6.5/10

We start off with Birmingham City, with Ryan Allsop expected to be the preferred man in between the sticks under Chris Davies.

Allsop featured in 38 of their 46 league games in the third-tier as he looks to help his boyhood club push up the Championship table.

AI has praised Allsop’s previous experience in the Championship, with the shot-stopper amassing over 150 appearances for the likes of Hull City and Cardiff City, but believes he is prone to inconsistency, rating him 6.5/10.

Blackburn Rovers – Aynsley Pears – 6/10

Next up is Aynsley Pears of Blackburn Rovers, who looks set to still be the preferred choice under Valerien Ismael after making 40 appearances across the 2024-25 term.

Entering his sixth straight season at Ewood Park, AI rates Pears 6/10, praising his good reflexes but believing he can be error-prone.

Bristol City – Joe Lumley – 5.5/10

Joe Lumley has arrived at Ashton Gate and could end up displacing Max O’Leary under the fresh regime of Gerhard Struber.

Lumley will be hoping his vast second-tier experience can help benefit the playing squad, racking up over 150 appearances at this level.

AI isn’t as complimentary though, citing Lumley as a journeyman goalkeeper, and an arrival that Bristol City fans shouldn’t view as inspiring. This has led to a measly rating of 5.5/10.

Charlton Athletic – Thomas Kaminski – 7/10

Thomas Kaminski has also experienced a change of scenery during the summer transfer window, arriving to The Valley from Luton Town after suffering back-to-back relegations at Kenilworth Road.

Expected to slot in as first-choice keeper, AI has praised Kaminski’s ability to be a regular starter at both Blackburn and Luton, believing he commands his box well and is an effective shot-stopper.

Because of this, the Belgian comes in at a rating of 7/10.

Coventry City – Carl Rushworth – 7.5/10

Carl Rushworth has added to the Coventry City goalkeeping department following the unfortunate long-term injury to Oliver Dovin.

The former Swansea City keeper will be battling it out for the number one shirt with Ben Wilson and Brad Collins, but the fresh arrival may get the nod under Frank Lampard.

While Rushworth failed to make an impact on his latest loan venture at Hull City, the Brighton loanee did play every game for the Swans during the 2023-24 season, gaining solid experience at second-tier level.

From this, AI is very optimistic over Rushworth’s potential, viewing him as young, confident and agile, while believing he will make it at Premier League level.

Rushworth earns a 7.5/10 rating.

Derby County - Jacob Widell Zetterström – 6/10

Jacob Widell Zetterstrom tasted his first season of English football in the 2024-25 campaign, featuring 40 times as the Rams survived under John Eustace.

The Swede is expected to play a significant role again in between the sticks, but AI believes he still has to prove himself despite an impressive opening term.

For now, AI has rated him 6/10, but it will improve if he can show consistency over multiple seasons.

Hull City – Ivor Pandur – 6/10

Ivor Pandur also got his introduction to Championship football in 2024-25, playing 44 times as the Tigers narrowly avoided relegation.

The Croat is still expected to occupy the number one shirt ahead of 2025-26, and is rated similarly to Zetterstrom by AI.

Another 6/10 rating is offered, with AI believing Pandur needs to produce the goods the following season to be considered a good shot-stopper at second-tier level.

Ipswich Town – Alex Palmer – 7/10

Despite some heroic displays, Alex Palmer was unable to help Ipswich Town survive in the Premier League after his move from West Brom.

He hopes to help bring about an instant return to the big time though, as the club possesses significant financial resources.

AI believes Palmer is a reliable and composed figure from his playing time at The Hawthorns in the Championship, and is still a good fit for Kieran McKenna’s style of play, coming in at a rating of 7/10.

Leicester City – Mads Hermansen – 8.5/10

As Leicester City enter a new era under Marti Cifuentes, Mads Hermansen currently looks set to remain at the King Power Stadium ahead of their Championship return.

Hermansen helped guide the Foxes to promotion back to the top-flight but subsequently was part of their 2024-25 relegation campaign.

AI is a massive fan of Hermansen at Championship level, with the Dane coming as the second-highest rated keeper in the division.

He is lauded for being an elite pick in the second-tier, earning an 8.5/10 rating for his excellent passing and strong hands.

Middlesbrough – Seny Dieng – 7/10

Rob Edwards takes charge of a Middlesbrough side who narrowly missed out on the play-offs in 2024-25.

Although he will be sidelined at the start of the upcoming campaign, Seny Dieng should return in between the sticks and remain first-choice after being limited to only 17 appearances in 2024-25.

Ai has mostly positive feedback about Dieng, believing he is talented and athletic but must cut out occasional lapses.
