Football League World ranks every second-tier team based on how dramatic the club is

Football in the Championship is never short of drama.

The second tier is highly regarded as one of the best leagues in the world, due mainly in part to the nail-biting, high-intensity matches on the field, and that's not even taking into account everything that happens off it, too!

But, out of the current Championship teams, who has the most drama surrounding them?

Football League World has decided to find out. Here is every Championship club ranked based on how dramatic they are currently.

24 ? ? Coventry City

In a season where the Championship is being praised for being as unpredictable as it ever has been, Coventry City have emerged as one of the most dominant teams the second tier has ever seen.

Given their goalscoring excellence this season, a lot of their games have been decided by a comfortable two, three, four, five or even six-goal margin, so there hasn't been much drama on the field.

Off-field, the purchase of the CBS Arena at the start of the campaign by owner Doug King has ensured that there's been a real calmness around Coventry, something which is very much welcomed after several tumultuous years.

23 ? ? Oxford United

From the outside, everything seems rather normal at Oxford United.

Gary Rowett is the eighth-longest serving manager in the division currently, they're now set to begin putting real plans down for their new 16,000 capacity stadium, and last season, they managed to survive with minimal fuss.

The second season is proving a little more difficult, but the Yellows are doing their best to stay above water, and even if they do fall into the bottom three, there's no doubt that Gary Rowett is still the right man for the job.

For a club that many believe is punching above its weight, there's no real drama at the Kassam Stadium currently.

Portsmouth may have started the season a little off pace compared to what they might have liked, but when you compare it to last year, they're doing great.

When you take into account that John Mousinho was trusted to steer the ship successfully after a start which saw them win just once in their opening 14 games, there won't be any concerns about their situation right now.

There's confidence in the squad to pick up enough wins to see them finish comfortably mid-table, so no issues right now.

21 ? ? Stoke City

The last few seasons haven't brought much drama for Stoke City. There'd have been internal frustrations, but seven consecutive campaigns finishing between 14th and 18th doesn't scream danger, but also doesn't excite.

There was perhaps some drama with how the Potters handled last season. Mark Robins took over, but even then, Stoke were hovering precariously above the bottom three for large periods of the campaign.

Now, though, Robins is taking his side on an unlikely tour of the top six, and there'll be some shocks if this season doesn't at least bring a top-half finish for the first time since they were relegated in 2018.

So for Stoke, it's a feeling of enjoyment, rather than stress due to any drama.

20 ? ? Bristol City

For the longest time, Bristol City were the least dramatic team in the Championship, steadily going about their business and finishing in mid-table.

However, last season's play-off finish brought some excitement, and there was some drama over the summer when Saudi billionaire Turki Alalshikh was linked with a purchase of the club - links which were squashed by the man himself.

So, now those links are dead, the Robins are once again going about their business with no real drama, just this time nearer the top of the table, which again brings excitement.

19 ? ? Preston North End

Rinse and repeat with Bristol City, here. Since their promotion from League One in 2015, Preston have been a side who would possibly flirt with the idea of the play-offs before finishing in mid-table.

Like Bristol City, though, they did have some dramatic moments on-field last season, as a truly drastic second half of the campaign led them into a relegation battle on the final day.

Then, this past summer, manager Paul Heckingbottom publicly stated that the club aren't in a position to make bids for players, which could potentially start some warning bells.

Despite this, Heckingbottom has Preston battling once again at the top of the division, and the focus now will be to ensure that a similar dramatic slide doesn't happen again once the calendar changes into 2026.

QPR have had their fair share of financial drama over the years, as they tried, but failed, to compete in the top flight.

Now they're starting to find their feet once again to try and push for an outside place in the top six after a few years of flirting with the possibility of relegation and plenty of years finishing comfortably in mid-table.

So, the Hoops are, in Championship terms, a fairly normal team currently. No real drama is happening off-field, but there are still a few current fans on edge, given their past, so a place in the lower mid-table on this list.

17 ? ? Millwall

At 17th, Millwall could be seen as being relatively low on the list, given the reputation of the club off-field as being rather rough around the edges and somewhat problematic.

However, other than a few recent years when they've pushed for a place in the top six until the final day, there haven't been many dramatic moments for Alex Neil's side.

So right now, they rank towards the bottom. However, with the unpredictability of the club, it may only take one incident to bring them back near the top.

16 ? ? Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic may have the most dramatic manager in the division in Nathan Jones, but thankfully for Addicks fans, his larger-than-life character may be the only sensational thing about the club currently.

The Addicks were the form team heading into the League One play-offs last season, and were relatively stress-free in their performances en route to a Championship return.

Then, so far this season, they've established themselves away from the bottom three, and many expect them to wind up in mid-table, perhaps even making an outside run at the top six.

So, it's a relatively calming atmosphere at The Valley right now, just with a manager in the dugout who commands drama wherever he goes, it seems.

Now we're heading into some more dramatic sides, and it goes to show how spectacular the Championship is that West Brom are still in the bottom half of this list.

There's always plenty of drama which surrounds a former Premier League side, especially one which is seeing the window of opportunity for a swift return close as they lose parachute payments and are forced to sell assets to compete sustainably.

That being said, Shilen Patel, who has been the owner at The Hawthorns-based club for over a year now, seems calm and transparent when communicating with the fanbase.

Therefore, despite performances not living up to expectations and increased pressure on manager Ryan Mason, it seems that the Baggies' higher-ups aren't panicking, meaning less drama off-field.
