The Championship is packed with ambitious clubs chasing a Premier League return, underdogs punching well above their weight, and institutions carrying a deep history many supporters elsewhere can scarcely imagine.

With this in mind, Football League World takes a closer look at the historical success of each club competing in the 2025/26 Championship.

24 ? ? Watford - 0 major honours

Watford open this list having not picked up a major honour throughout their 143-year history. Though, as will be the case throughout, a relative lack of silverware does not mean that the club is without success.

Hornets fans have incredibly recent Premier League memories, with Watford relegated from the top flight in 2022. Before the three years from 2020 to 2022 (featuring a relegation, promotion and relegation), Watford embarked on a five-year stint in the top-flight, in which they secured a club-high 11th place in the Premier League era, with one of the greatest moments in the Hornets' history coming the same year.

2-0 down with just over 10 minutes of normal time remaining, Gerard Deulofeu sparked a sensational comeback against Wolves in the 2019 FA Cup semi-final, with Watford going on to win 3-2 at Wembley. They would go on to lose 6-0 against Manchester City in the final, though, marking their second time as FA Cup runners-up.

23 ? ? Hull City - 0 major honours

Similarly with Watford, one of Hull City's finest days also came in the FA Cup as they staged a comeback to beat Sheffield United 5-3 in the 2014 semi-final, booking their spot in the final for the first time in the club's history, before a late Aaron Ramsey goal saw the Tigers lose 3-2.

The club's two undoubted finest moments also came at Wembley, with scorchers from Dean Widass and Mohamed Diame sending Hull to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2008 and 2016 respectively.

22 ? ? Millwall - 0 major honours

Millwall have spent most of their history outside the top-flight, with just the one EFL Trophy triumph in 1983 to mention when it comes to honours - though this is not classed among the major trophies.

Millwall returned to the Championship in 2017 and have flirted with the play-offs multiple times. Though the Lions have been unable to string a full promotion campaign together.

The Robins have built impressive infrastructure at Ashton Gate, and sit in one of England's biggest and most populated cities. However, they have remained far from silverware for the entirety of the club's history.

City were promoted to the Championship in 2015, and have been in the second tier ever since. Their recent play-off charge in the 2024/25 season has provided hope that the form can continue, now under Gerhard Struber.

20 ? ? Wrexham - 0 major honours

Wrexham's trophy haul in England is limited to lower-league titles and EFL trophy success, though they have lifted the Welsh cup a record 23 times.

Their surge in the last five years has seen the club rise from non-league to the second-tier, with their Hollywood owners carrying serious ambitions of a level higher than the Championship.

19 ? ? Oxford United - 1 major honour

As with the opening section of this list, we are now entering an area with multiple clubs locked on one major honour in their history.

Oxford's one historical trophy came in 1986, when they lifted the League Cup after a 3-0 win against Queens Park Rangers. However, in a more modern context, the U's are more than punching above their weight by being in the second tier in the first place.

18 ? ? Charlton Athletic - 1 major honour

The Addicks have been hampered by boardroom instability throughout much of their modern history. Their only major honour came in 1947, when Charlton lifted the FA Cup.

Now back in the second tier for the first time since the 2019/20 season, the Addicks have started well under Nathan Jones, and fans are thinking that maybe, just maybe, they can dream of a division higher in the coming years.

17 ? ? Stoke City - 1 major honour

Stoke last won a major trophy in 1972, when they lifted the League Cup. The closest that the Potters have been to one since came in 2011, when they lost out to Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Stoke were relegated from the Premier League in 2018 and have failed to mount a promotion challenge since. Though their sensational start under Mark Robins this term has given fans in the Midlands hope that a return to the top-flight could be on the cards sooner rather than later.

Coventry's last major honour came in 1987, with the Sky Blues lifting the FA Cup. However, the club bounced between the pyramid's divisions for a long period in the subsequent years.

The Sky Blues currently sit at the top of the Championship heading into the festive period, after Frank Lampard's side lost out to Sunderland in the play-off semi-final back in May. With their momentum and recent near misses considered, Coventry fans are prepared to finally return to the top flight at some point soon.

15 ? ? Queens Park Rangers - 1 major honour

A League Cup win in 1967 proved to be Queens Park Rangers' only piece of silverware to date. Top-tier honours have eluded them in the years since.

The R's were relegated from the Premier League in 2015, and have been mid-table regulars in the Championship since. The ongoing project under Frenchman Julien Stephan has provided hope of a climb up the standings, though the R's have seen their fair share of managers leave for pastures new in recent years.
