Alonso admits he hopes for ‘boring’ games in future after draw with Hull – and explains reason for substitution | OneFootball

Xabi Alonso admits Chelsea are being hurt by recurring problems after his side were held to a 2-2 draw by Hull City at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues took an early lead through Morgan Rogers but found themselves 2-1 down at half-time before Joao Pedro rescued a point in the second half.

Alonso was frustrated by Chelsea’s inability to maintain control after going ahead and joked that he would prefer a “boring” victory to another entertaining encounter.

“It’s all maybe entertaining, but I hope that one day you say it was a boring game and we win and we don’t give these entertaining moments,” Alonso said.

“It kind of repeats some patterns that we are making. It will take time or it will take moments to fix them when we get the lead and you still need to be competing and not give the chance so easily for them to come back.

“Especially in the first goal, we can do much better. It was too soft to give them this hope because until then we were controlling, we were creating chances.”

Alonso also confirmed Jorrel Hato’s half-time withdrawal was purely tactical, with Pep Chavarria introduced in his place.

“We wanted a player with another profile,” he explained. “With Pep and Jorrel, it’s different, and that was the decision.”
