Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso addressed the media ahead of Sunday’s La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano, offering measured but confident answers as his team looks to bounce back from the setback at Anfield.
The Spanish coach knows how tricky trips to Vallecas can be, especially given Rayo’s strong home form.
“It’s a demanding visit, Rayo are in good form, we drew there last year… We’re prepared for a very intense match,” Alonso said when asked about the challenge that awaits.
After the disappointment in Liverpool, many expected the Real Madrid boss to show concern over his team’s mindset, but Alonso dismissed any doubts.
“Every match is the most important. That’s our mentality. In the league, we want to maintain our momentum and finish strong before the break,” he explained, underlining his belief that focus and consistency are key.
There was also positive news on Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has recently recovered and could start against Rayo.
“Yes, he’s been here a couple of weeks, he’s doing well,” confirmed Alonso, suggesting that the Englishman is ready to return to the starting eleven.

Asked whether Federico Valverde might be moved back into midfield, the coach praised the Uruguayan’s versatility.
“Due to the circumstances, he played at full-back, he did well, we know his attitude and the flexibility he gives us.”
When questioned about the team’s inconsistency, impressive in the El Clasico, yet unconvincing in defeats like the one at Anfield, Alonso remained composed.
“We want to be consistent, but not all matches are the same. I have no complaints whatsoever about my players’ attitude beforehand,” he said, defending his squad’s effort.
Looking ahead, Alonso emphasised his satisfaction with the team’s overall progress.
“We know where we are and what’s coming, we want to finish on a high note before the break, that’s what we want.”
He even hinted that Rodrygo could be deployed on the right flank again. “It’s a possibility, he’s done it many times, also through the middle.”
Lastly, when asked about Gareth Bale’s comments comparing Real Madrid to Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso simply smiled.
“I’m very happy with them, we’re making progress. That’s what makes me happy,” he concluded.
