Spurs are experiencing a rebuild under Roberto De Zerbi and he has brought in a host of new faces in the form of Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke and Andrew Robertson to strengthen his defence.

However, they could experience departures in defence in the form of Cristian Romero and Spence, who is being chased by Italian giants Inter Milan.

Spence has experience of playing in Italy when he joined Genoa on loan in the winter of 2024 and the Italian outfit tried to sign him on a permanent basis but failed to make a deal happen.

Last season, Spence was a regular for Spurs but that changed after the arrival of De Zerbi in March, since then he managed to start only two games in the Premier League.

Spence impressed for the England national team during the recently finished World Cup and Spurs slapped a ‘very high’ price tag on his head.

In July it was suggested that Inter Milan had made official contact with the 26-year-old’s agents and it was suggested that the Nerazzurri could pursue a deal for Spence if Spurs were willing to lower their asking price.

With the transfer window set to enter its final stretch the Italian outfit were also looking at other options but it was suggested that Spence’s situation was something that was ‘one to keep an eye on’.

Inter are now closing in on a deal to secure the signature of Spence and they are expected to pay a fee in the region of €30m plus bonuses to Spurs.

According to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Spence has been doing his homework on Inter Milan and has already spoken with England team-mate Stones about the club.

Stones recently completed a move to Inter Milan on a free transfer.

Spence is now waiting for both clubs to finalise a deal and receive a ‘go-ahead’ from Tottenham before he can travel to Milan and put pen to paper.

It is suggested that despite Nerazzurri holding conversations with other players for the same role, Spence was always their primary target and he will sign a four-year deal with the club if everything goes as planned.
