Álvaro García headed the late winner as CD Castellón came from behind to beat Girona 1-2 at Montilivi, keeping top spot in Segunda División. He struck on 85 minutes after Gazzaniga parried an Ousmane Camara effort.

El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that the forward endured a summer of exit rumours and, often behind the Guinean in attack, found this a personal release.

Girona dominated the opening stages and Castellón fell behind. After Abel Ruiz was sent off, the visitors swarmed forward, Agustín Sienra equalised and García completed the turnaround.

Only a week earlier at Albacete, García had been poised to come on before Juanjo Nieto’s injury forced Pablo Hernández into a different final change, sending him back to the bench.

He accepted such in-game setbacks as part of football, said he had kept working, and felt fortune smiled six days later. He underlined the importance of three points away from home for their objectives at the end of the season.

This was García’s second goal for Castellón. The first arrived last season in a 1-2 home defeat to Córdoba at SkyFi Castalia, when he replaced Camara and headed in on 81 minutes.
