Castellón’s outstanding start rolled on, a 2-1 turnaround at Girona keeping Pablo Hernández’s side unbeaten leaders on 13 points from 15. El Periódico Mediterráneo reports they have now spent two straight weeks at the summit, though only five rounds have been played.

At Montilivi the hosts struck first. Agustín Sienra levelled on 81 after Paulo Gazzaniga’s parry, then Álvaro García won it on 86 following the keeper’s save from Ousmane Camara’s effort.

The win snapped a long hoodoo. Girona had taken the previous six league meetings, three in Castalia and three in Montilivi, with Castellón going 17 years without beating them.

Away form has been historic. Three trips, three wins, Real Sociedad B 0-1, Celta Fortuna 1-2 and Girona 1-2, making this the club’s best start on the road across Primera and Segunda.

Despite losing Álex Calatrava and Brian Cipenga and suffering Fabrizio Brignani’s serious injury, goals are shared around. The seven in the league have come from six players, Camara 2, plus Fran Castillo, Pablo Santiago, Israel Suero, Sienra and García with one each.

The bench is deciding games. Suero scored against Albacete minutes after coming on, and García settled Girona nine minutes after replacing Fran Castillo.

Depth is being used smartly. Hernández has already called on 22 players, with 18 different starters, and he made four changes to the XI in Girona without losing edge. There is a long way to go, but Castellón have learned to suffer, kept winning and found fresh protagonists.
