América have confirmed the departure of Juan Otero from the club, with the winger joining Spanish side Sporting Gijón on a year-long loan.
In a post on the Azulcrema’s social media accounts, the club said: “Thank you, Juan Otero. We wish you all the success in your next projects.”
The 27-year-old Colombian was surplus to requirements at the Estadio Azteca, as evidenced by the club’s decision not to register him for the 2022 Apertura.
Otero would have taken up one of the precious foreign player spots, which Las Águilas needed for new signing Jonathan Rodríguez.
Segunda División side Gijón confirmed the deal on their website.
“Real Sporting incorporates Juan Ferney Otero (Colombia, 05/26/1995) as a new player for the 2022/23 season,” the statement read.
“The winger arrives on loan from Club América with a purchase option at the end of this season.”
The news brings Otero’s brief six-month spell at the Liga MX giants to an end, which only began when he signed on a $3.85m deal from Santos Laguna in January.
