América have reportedly offered Giovani dos Santos to Monterrey as they look to get the injury-plagued playmaker off their wage bill.
Dos Santos joined the Azulcrema amid great fanfare in July 2019, but he has failed to live up to expectations as the now 31-year-old has been beset by chronic muscular issues.
The former Barcelona man is contracted with Las Águilas for another 18 months, but a prominant Mexican journalist has claimed that dos Santos has been offered to at least two other Liga MX clubs.
ESPN Deportes journalist David Faitelson tweeted: “It seems that America does not know how to get rid of Giovanni Dos Santos … First Toluca … Now Rayados?”
Dos Santos did not feature as América crashed out of the Guard1anes 2020 Liguilla at the quarter-finals stage to arch rival Chivas.
The veteran Mexico international has also not been registered for the rest of the CONCACAF Champions League, with América set to face Atlanta United in a quarter-final second leg on Wednesday.
Miguel Herrera’s men won the first leg 3-0 back in March before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the competition.
Dos Santos started in that game, but it seems América have lost patience with their persistently sidelined star.
The biggest challenge now seems to be finding another side who are willing to take a chance on the ageing attacker.
