Renato Ibarra will reportedly travel with América for their clash with Atlas at the Estadio Jalisco on Sunday.
The winger, who actually spent last year on loan with La Academia, will not feature in the game. However, he is included in an extended travelling squad the Azulcrema are bringing.
According to TUDN, manager Santiago Solari wanted to bolster his numbers for training as Las Águilas prepare for a number of days on the road.
After the game on Sunday, América will turn their attention to another league fixture on Wednesday at Juárez.
Rather than return to Mexico City, they will just travel directly between games.
Ibarra is still considered persona non grata by the América hierarchy after he was arrested over alleged domestic violence in March 2020.
The charges were eventually dropped, but the club announced at the time that the player had no future with them.
While he may be training with the first team, the Ecuador international has not been registered for the 2021 Apertura and América are understood to be still trying to get him off the books.
