América ‘to try to sign’ Obed Vargas if Álvaro Fidalgo leaves | OneFootball

Club América are considering Obed Vargas as a contingency option, but only if Álvaro Fidalgo departs in the winter window.

According to TUDN, there is genuine interest in the Mexican midfielder, yet any move would be attempted only in the event of Fidalgo’s exit.

There was a recent rumour that América had contacted Vargas’s representatives to signal their interest. The club have again received offers for the Spaniard, and while nothing is decided, Vargas is viewed as Plan B.

Fidalgo has previously turned down proposals that did not fully convince him, preferring the comfort he enjoys at América, both sporting and financial.

The two midfielders offer different profiles. Fidalgo is a mixed midfielder with strong ball use and an eye for line-breaking passes, while Vargas is more vertical, seeking quick, attacking combinations. They could feasibly play together, which raises questions over targeting Vargas solely as a replacement.
