América vs Necaxa could be moved after Kanye West concert clash

Club América’s Liga MX home game against Necaxa on Saturday 31 January at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes could be forced to change date or venue. According to Americayya.net, a Kanye West concert at the Plaza de Toros that day and Benito Juárez rules against two mass events make it impossible for the fixture to go ahead as currently scheduled.

Similar clashes have already occurred, with the borough previously closing Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes in response.

There has been no official word from the club or Liga MX. The three possible remedies are relocating to another stadium, altering the date, or switching the fixture to Estadio Victoria with Necaxa as hosts and América to repay the visit next tournament.

Rescheduling looks difficult. Sunday is constrained by América’s trip to Honduras on Tuesday, and Friday is not viable because the Kanye West concert is set for Friday and Saturday.

Options now centre on finding an alternative stadium or awarding home status to Necaxa at Estadio Victoria. An official decision is awaited.
