Club América’s veteran goalkeeper Memo Ochoa had his leadership skills on full display after Mexico’s 3-0 win over South Africa on Wednesday.
After qualifying for the quarter-finals of the Olympics, the 36-year-old team captain was captured congratulating his team-mates on the achievement.
During the emphatic speech, Ochoa lit a spark in the team’s quest for the podium.
“We are one game away from smelling the medals. Humility, down to earth. We remain focused. As we play today, nobody beats us,” said Ochoa.
“In football, there is nothing easy, we were in a difficult group, and there we are in the next phase.”
“Two victories in a short tournament are good and the team showed character and personality.”
Mexico will face South Korea in the quarter-finals on 31 July.
