Manchester United summer signing Senne Lammens only needed one outing to win over the fans’ support, but he had already gained the backing of the technical staff thanks to the way he handled himself in training.
Lammens signed for the Red Devils on deadline day following a summer filled with speculation. His arrival pushed Andre Onana out the door, as the latter joined Trabzonspor on loan until the end of the season.
Nevertheless, Altay Bayindir still kept his starting berth, while the Belgian newcomer had to settle for a place in the dugout. However, this all changed on Saturday afternoon.
Amorim finally decided to hand the 23-year-old his club debut, as Man Utd hosted Sunderland for a must-win game. Luckily for the Portuguese manager, the summer signing repaid his faith with a solid display between the posts.
United supporters in the Stretford End were so impressed by Lammens that they playfully compared him to club legend Peter Schmeichel.

According to the Centre Devils journalist Sully, the young cutodian had already made a big impression on Amorim and the rest of the technical staff in training.
As the Carrington insider puts it, the Man Utd coaches have been ‘blown away’ by Lammens’ work ethic in training.
The goalkeeper has reportedly been staying on the training pitch to do extra work, focusing primarily on improving his fitness levels, as well as his distribution skills.
Lammens also won the respect and appreciation of everyone at Carrington thanks to his ‘calm and reserved’ character, as well as the sense of maturity that goes beyond his 23 years.
Needless to say, the Belgian is now an automatic starter at Man Utd, especially since Bayindir’s performances have left much to be desired.
The new Man Utd fan favourite might still have a long way to go to prove he’s the answer for the club’s problem role, but his Old Trafford bow certainly had the fans craving for more.
