Amy Woodruff secured herself a brace on opening day against Thornaby Women, helping Leeds United Women to an emphatic 7-0 win in the FA WNL Division One North.
Woodruff opened the scoring in the first half as she finished off a really neat team move starting from Darcie Greene at left back, before adding the seventh in stoppage time to cap off the victory.
Speaking after the final whistle, our number 14 said: "I think we grew into the game definitely. I think the first 10 or 15 minutes showed quite a few nerves, but it's opening day of the season.
"We know how long the season is, we stuck to the task and we got rewarded by the girls today, and it's a great start to the season.
"I think preseason builds a lot to this first game, no matter who your opponent is. It's important that we've worked well in pre-season, which we have done. Everything's been so positive in camp and we were just so ready to get going today."
On bagging a brace, Woodruff added: "As a striker it's a big confidence booster, but less than me scoring it at the point of the game, we needed that goal just to settle it a bit.
"I think after the first goal went in the game got brought under more control then I think we got a bit of rhythm, bit of momentum, and we worked hard together. But yeah, I'm pleased to get 2 goals today. Started as we mean to go on.
"We're taking each game as it comes," the forward added on next week's test against Chester-le-Street Town Ladies. "We'll do our homework. We'll focus this week on training how we're going to play and prepare for that game. But tonight we'll just rest and head back in on Tuesday and look forward to next Sunday."
