Ana Vitória hails Corinthians’ performance after Copa das Campeãs final

Back in Brazil after competing in the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, midfielder Ana Vitória evaluated Corinthians’ campaign in the international tournament and commented on the external perception regarding the favoritism of European teams. The Brabas finished as runners-up after a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in extra time, in a final marked by balance and a strong comeback by the alvinegra team during regular time.

In the final, Corinthians fought back to tie the game in regular time with goals from Gabi Zanotti and Vic Albuquerque, who converted a penalty in stoppage time, sending the match into extra time. In overtime, the English team scored the goal that secured the title.

After returning to Brazil, in an interview with Fut das Minas, when talking about the experience of facing opponents from other continents, the athlete emphasized that she was not surprised by the level shown by Corinthians and reinforced the club’s status as a reference in South American women’s football.

“To be really honest, I honestly didn’t expect people to be so surprised, you know? And I didn’t expect to find this favoritism for others, for the rivals, out there. I don’t know if it’s just me, because I’ve always seen Corinthians as a reference, I’ve always talked a lot about this, since my last stint here in 2017/2018, I’ve always been very curious to see Corinthians Women in these matchups and I think now I’ve satisfied my curiosity, and people could also see that women’s football is doing very well, that the representative of South American football went there and played two great matches, we lost by a detail to the current European champion, so I think it was very good,” said Ana Vitória.

Ana Vitória also commented on her physical condition after leaving the field during the final, reassuring everyone about any possibility of injury and projecting a normal continuation of work with the squad.

“No need to worry, it’s just fatigue, I even have my compression sock here to help circulation so I’ll be great for Saturday.”

The squad now turns its attention to the rest of the season. Next Saturday (07), at 4pm (Brasília time), Corinthians faces Palmeiras in the Women’s Supercup at Arena Barueri, competing for the first trophy of the season.
