Anderson hails City’s fight after Foden red as Haaland seals gritty derby triumph over United | OneFootball

Elliot Anderson has praised the fight from Manchester City after securing a 1-0 win at Manchester United.

Manchester City secured victory in the first derby of the season courtesy of Erling Haaland's second-half strike.

The Cityzens were forced to dig deep for the points after Phil Foden's red card in the first half. The midfielder was dismissed for kicking out at Bruno Fernandes, following a tangle between the pair.

Enzo Maresca's side battled hard throughout despite that disadvantage and were awarded a slice of fortune when Haaland's goal was allowed to stand, despite controversy over Enzo Fernandez's offside position in the build-up.

The win moves Maresca's side back level on points with Arsenal at the top of thePremier League table, with both sides having made a perfect start to the campaign.

Anderson had called City the 'Kings of Manchester' after signing in the summer and revelled in his first experience of the rivalry.

“We are now! [Kings of Manchester]. We always knew it would be a tough game,” he said tomancity.com.

"Losing Phil at the start wasn’t good for us but we said at half time it would make us feel better to win. We took the three points.

“It [red card] gives you more motivation to go and get the points. It was really tough for us. We had to run more and fight more. We all shone to a man and we were brilliant. All of our midfield do [relish these games]. Me and Enzo [Fernández] love to fight, tackle and get on the ball and play. We gave it our all today and everyone was brilliant.

It was the midfielder’s first taste of the Manchester derby and he expressed his delight at marking the occasion in perfect fashion.

“It was my first Manchester derby and to start it like that is brilliant. It’s a new era here and starting here with a win in this game is amazing. We’re all really happy.”
