Anderson says Man City determined to lay down a marker against Arsenal | OneFootball

Elliot Anderson believes Manchester City can lay down an early marker by beating Premier League champions Arsenal in the Community Shield on Sunday.

The midfielder completed his £116m move to City from Nottingham Forest this summer and has the chance to make his competitive debut when they face the Gunners.

“A chance to win a trophy in your first week is quite good, so hopefully I can get minutes there and show what I can do,” Anderson said ahead of the game.

Anderson believes Sunday’s meeting with Arsenal will be an important early test for Enzo Maresca’s side as they begin a new era under the former Chelsea boss.

“It’s really important,” Anderson said when asked whether City can lay down a marker against Arsenal.

“I think every game is important, all the pre-season games have been important, so that’s all we’ll try and do is win that game.

“It’ll be a difficult game.

“Obviously the champions from last season so it’ll be tough but every game’s going to be tough this season. We’ll just play in our style on them and try and win the game.”

The midfielder is also relishing the opportunity to work under Maresca, who replaced Pep Guardiola as City manager this summer.

“As I say, I had a bit of work with him today and you can see the detail he goes into and I’m looking really forward to that,” Anderson said.
