André Guy, Lyon’s 13th-highest scorer, died on Friday morning aged 85, Le Progres reports.

Born on 3 March 1941 in Bourg-en-Bresse, the France international’s career took him from Sochaux to Nevers, via ASSE, Lille, Lyon, Rennes and Toulon. He won eight caps for France, scoring two goals.

Between 1967 and 1971 he scored 76 goals in 126 games for Lyon. He long held the single-season mark with 25 in 1968-69, before Alexandre Lacazette bettered it in 2015 with 27, then 28 in 2017.

He won Division 2 in 1963 with ASSE, then the top-flight title the following year with 28 goals, before joining Lyon in 1967. Four years later he lifted the Coupe de France with Rennes, scoring the only goal as Rennes beat Lyon in the final.

He supplied the assist for Bernard Lacombe’s first professional goal on 7 December 1969. In retirement he settled in Sanary-sur-Mer, serving as deputy for sports for six years, and played tennis for many years.
