Corinthians lifted the Supercopa do Brasil with a 2-0 win over Flamengo at Mané Garrincha. Nineteen-year-old André Luiz stood out and later praised Dorival Júnior and the fans.
According to Meu Timao, the midfielder has been earning trust under Dorival this season.
A youth product, he was promoted after the August 2025 Club World Cup pause. He first came off the bench, then rotation and midfield absences in 2026 helped him seize his chance.
He thanked Dorival and assistants Lucas Silvestre and Pedro Sotero for daily guidance that has built his confidence.
Energetic in and out of possession with well-timed surges into the box, he has drawn comparisons with Rincón, Paulinho and Elias. He accepted the parallels and said he recently greeted Elias at the Bahia match in Vila.
He has three goals in 18 appearances, six starts, and already owns the 2025 Copa do Brasil and 2026 Supercopa.
In Brasília, Corinthians fans dominated the noise despite a split crowd, and André Luiz called them the biggest and ever-present.
Supporters’ groups issued a joint call for a big display, and nearly 200 buses travelled from São Paulo to Brasília.
He noted the challenge of a Flamengo midfield including Pulgar, Arrascaeta, Jorginho, Carrascal, De La Cruz and Paquetá, but felt Corinthians coped.
Attention now turns to the Campeonato Paulista, with Capivariano visiting Neo Química Arena on Thursday at 20:30 in round six.
