Andre Onana

The Cameroonian has had to put up with the disappointment of not currently representing his nation in the Africa Cup of Nations.

As a result, Onana was back in action for Trabzonspor in their semi-final of the Turkish Super Cup against Galatasaray.

He has not been the safest pair of hands recently, as before the match last night, he had conceded seven goals in his side’s previous two matches.

Last night was another challenging time, as he conceded another four goals as his side were blown away 4-1 by the Istanbul giants.

The match

Onana could not really be faulted for the first goal, as Barış Alper Yılmaz was left unmarked in the box and volleyed home from close range.

There will certainly be question marks over Onana for the second goal, though. In an all too familiar sight for United fans, the keeper was slow to react and get down to stop the ball.

The ball squirmed underneath him, when a more agile keeper would have most likely made the save, and Galatasaray had their second through Eren Elmali.

Onana was almost involved in a calamitous third goal just after half-time, when he came racing out of the goal but missed the ball entirely and the ball looped over his head towards the goal.

Fortunately for the United man, the ball hit the post and his defender was able to clear it away.

The third and fourth goals had little to do with Onana, as once again his defence left him massively exposed and Yunus Akgun and Mauro Icardi finished from close range to knock Trabzonspor out of the cup.

Onana did make a total of five saves in the match, two of which came from inside the box.

He also made one successful run out and completed 66% of his passes.

The keeper will next be in action when Trabzonspor face İstanbulspor in the Turkish Cup group stage on Wednesday, 14th January.
