Andreas Skov Olsen’s comments on Rangers have been twisted

We didn’t think we’d be talking about former Rangers winger Andreas Skov Olsen’s comments any time soon again, but the Dane has popped up during the international break.
Naturally the Scottish headlines used his quotes to claim he was slaughtering Rangers and the league, but in reality, his comments make sense.
If anything, there’s a possible dig at the dross Danny Rohl served up. He was, the one, after all, who brought Skov Olsen here.
The quotes to be exact:
“It (Rangers) was perhaps not the right football for me, and personally I didn’t get the best out of it as I had hoped. It just wasn’t the right match football-wise.”
To suggest this is an attack on Rangers or Scottish football is ludicrous.
How many times have Ibrox fans suggested a player didn’t fit in, and said so in a reasonable way. But the departed player saying it equals an attack on the club and league?
What we know about Skov Olsen is he doesn’t handle pressure and demand terribly well. He didn’t cope with Bologna, and sure didn’t cope with Rangers.
He didn’t do much better with Wolfsburg either and addresses that one:
“Wolfsburg switched to not playing with wings, so I ended up playing very far back, even though I’m not a right-back.
“That’s how it goes in football, depending on which coach comes in. You never know, but in my case it might not have been the most optimal.”
Nothing particularly disrespectful in there either from Andreas Skov Olsen’s comments.
But the reality is he can’t cope with high-level football, or a must win club.
This is why he’s absolutely shining with Turkish midtable side İstanbul Başakşehir F.K. They’re 12th in the league with just 3 wins in 6. He’s got an excellent 4 goals and assists in 6.
That’s his bag. They did win the title 6 years ago and have a few second places, but overall they’re a midtable team with a lack of pressure.
The exact circumstance Skov Olsen has always done best in. When he’s not pressured.
He said nothing that was bad, but the red tops have used it as an attack on Rangers or Scotland.
He didn’t suit the league, and the pressure was too much, not that he offered that part.
We wish him well in Türkiye.
