Andrew Hughes has arrived at Lezama to take exclusive charge of set pieces for Athletic, joining Edin Terzic's staff on Monday after completing World Cup duties with Scotland.
According to El Correo, Terzic is continuing to shape his backroom with two hires aimed at sharpening tactical detail and physical output, with Hughes the standout addition.
The British coach brings broad experience in English football, having worked at Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Norwich City. He comes in to pursue the club's aim of maximising set-play effectiveness, a priority Jon Uriarte and Mikel González underlined in a press conference reviewing last season.
Set pieces, once a strong suit for Athletic, have yielded little in recent campaigns. Hughes is tasked with reversing the trend and restoring a real threat from deliveries, with corners once more set to stir San Mamés.
In addition, the conditioning department led by David Casamichana is strengthened by Pablo Rivas, who joins after four seasons at Barcelona, serving last term with the club's B team.
