Andy King has reiterated he does not want the Leicester City manager’s job on a permanent basis, despite stepping in as interim head coach. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, his stance is unchanged after a third straight defeat under his watch.

City lost 4-3 to Southampton on Tuesday night, making it three losses in three since King took over following Marti Cifuentes’ departure. Including the defeat to Oxford that preceded Cifuentes leaving, City are on four successive Championship losses for the first time since 2010.

“100 per cent it’s still my stance. I was very clear with you guys, I was clear with the club. I’ll do it until we find someone, but this job isn’t mine.”

King said he enjoys working with the young players and the squad in his previous role, and that his position has not changed over the last couple of games.

The search for a new manager continues, with no leading candidate emerging. Despite his reluctance, some bookmakers still list King as favourite, with Lincoln boss Michael Skubala and former Leicester manager Dean Smith also at short odds.

City could drop into the bottom three if Blackburn take a draw or better at QPR on Saturday. Asked if results increase the urgency to appoint, King said: “Potentially. You’ll have to ask the people above me. I’m not the one who makes those sorts of decisions.”
