Ange Postecoglou has spoken of his excitement at working alongside Cristiano Ronaldo after linking up with the Portugal legend following his appointment as Al-Nassr manager.

The former Celtic boss met Ronaldo for the first time at the Saudi club’s pre-season base, with the veteran forward yet to rejoin the squad after being granted additional time off following the World Cup.

Despite the delayed return, Postecoglou made it clear the 41-year-old remains central to his plans heading into the new campaign.

Speaking to the media, Postecoglou said via Glasgow Times: “Cristiano Ronaldo is a very important player and it is certainly an honour for me to share a dressing room with him and the other players feel the same way.

“I had a conversation with Cristiano and he confirmed to me his readiness for the new season.

“He deserves more rest and he will soon return to the team’s camp to prepare for the campaign ahead.

“He will certainly be with us soon to prepare for the start of the new league season.”
