When Germany announced their squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers on Thursday, Angelo Stiller’s name wasn't on the list.
After Stuttgart’s 2-0 Europa League win over Feyenoord on Thursday night, Stiller was asked about his omission, but didn't want to say much.
“We discussed it internally. That has to be enough,” Stiller told RTL.
When pressed further, the 24-year-old simply said: “No comment.”
Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß admitted he was surprised by Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann’s decision to leave Stiller out.
“I didn’t expect that,” Hoeneß said.
“Still, that’s the situation now, and we will, of course, stick to not questioning it.”
Only Jamie Leweling and Alexander Nübel were called up from the Stuttgart squad, while Maximilian Mittelstädt and Deniz Undav were left out alongside Stiller.
“We want to give sporting answers now and be successful together. And then, I’m sure, that path will lead them back,” Hoeneß added.
