Real Sociedad have installed a new pitch at Anoeta in time for their home opener against Espanyol on 29 August at 19:00, the third round of Liga. According to Diario Vasco, the surface will be treated over the coming days to ensure it is ready for the match.

Stadium works and the presence of heavy cranes on the turf had damaged the previous grass, so as planned it has been replaced. The new surface was laid in recent days to be available for that fixture.

Work to expand the stands is nearing completion, with capacity rising to 42,247 this season. It has been an intense summer at Anoeta, with three daily shifts to be ready for games by the end of the month, and Real Sociedad asked for their first two league fixtures to be scheduled away to allow the project to finish properly.

New seats are already in place in the second tier at all four corners, as well as in the new third tier, previously known as amphitheatres. The stadium is already prepared to be a World Cup venue in 2030.

Renewing the pitch has become a regular feature of recent summers in San Sebastián. This time the change follows interior works and the presence of four Liebherr cranes, heavy machinery capable of major lifts in tight spaces. Last year the grass was replaced after a summer packed with concerts and other events, including gastronomic ones.
