A once-iconic member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has on Tuesday announced his impending retirement from the game.
The player in question? Jordi Alba.
Left-back Alba is for his part currently plying his trade in the USA, with Major League Soccer outfit Inter Miami.
The 36-year-old has enjoyed a stellar individual campaign to date, culminating in seven goals and 11 assists across all competitions.
As alluded to above, though, this will prove his very last as a professional.
Taking to his official social media platforms on Tuesday, as per Diario Sport, Alba announced the difficult decision to hang up his boots upon the close of the MLS season.
The Spaniard will of course be best remembered for his time on the books of Barcelona, during which Alba acted as one of world football’s very best in his role, giving rise to six La Liga titles, six Copa del Reys, a Champions League crown and more between 2012 and 2023.
The veteran full-back joins fellow Blaugrana legend Sergio Busquets in announcing his retirement over the last week.
