A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona will play no part in the club’s La Liga season opener.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Fermín López as the player in question.

Youngster Fermín is of course fresh off nothing short of a historic summer.

After first playing his part in Spain’s triumph at Euro 2024, the 21-year-old was afforded a call-up to the country’s squad for the Olympic Games, too.

And Fermín went on to prove himself La Roja’s star performer, finding the net on six occasions, en route to Olympic gold.

Safe to say, then, that those of a Barcelona persuasion are no doubt excited to see their side’s midfield goalscorer back in action in Blaugrana colours as soon as possible.

If the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, however, then, for the time being at least, such fans will need to be patient.

This comes amid confirmation that Fermín will play no part in the club’s season opener, against Valencia next weekend.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘The Andalusian will now take a week’s holiday and will miss Hansi Flick’s Barça’s league opener. He will not be at Mestalla, but he will be available to the German coach for the second league match.’
