In 2012 and 2025, the Allianz Arena hosted the UEFA Champions League final. In 2012, FC Bayern even participated in what was known as the “Finale dahoam” (home final). The record champions could be aiming for another such final in the near future.
That’s because Munich is once again bidding to host the final of Europe’s premier club competition. Specifically, the bid is for the 2027–28 season final.
The Munich City Council’s Tourism Committee endorsed a bid to host the event during its meeting, as reported by *kicker*, among others.
Munich has recently demonstrated that it is capable of hosting major events, said Mayor Dominik Krause. That is definitely the case, as Munich was also one of the host cities for the 2024 European Championship, which was held in Germany.

The Allianz Arena is also a state-of-the-art stadium, and the infrastructure works well—something UEFA is well aware of. Likewise, communication with the City of Munich and the relevant officials proceeds smoothly and without issues.
It remains unclear which cities will ultimately submit bids and which stadiums they’ll propose. However, there is generally keen interest in hosting such a final. The Champions League is also the most prestigious competition in European soccer. It provides the stage for the world’s best teams.
In 2027, the final will take place at the Estadio Metropolitano in Madrid. This past summer’s Champions League final was held at the Puskas Arena in Budapest. There, PSG ultimately won the title against Arsenal after both teams faced off in a penalty shootout. So it’s quite possible that the battle for this major title will soon be fought again at the Allianz Arena.
