Brazil’s new financial fair play regime is being primed for quick decisions, with ANRESF president Caio Cordeiro de Resende saying speed will be vital. He has promised swift action, wants cases wrapped up within a maximum of three months, and says sanctions will be calibrated to educate clubs.
According to Globo.com, Resende also hailed the agency’s independence, pointed to broad backing across the game, and said the rollout comes at a challenging moment, with revenue growth losing momentum.
Clubs in Série A and Série B have been subject to the Sistema de Sustentabilidade Financeira do Futebol Brasileiro since one January. The framework is in place, the regulator is operating and further structures are being assembled.
ANRESF is already monitoring transfer agreements between domestic clubs, and late payments on those deals can amount to non-compliance.
Other rules are being phased in during a transition that runs until 2030.
Resende served on the CBF working group that drafted the regulation, following earlier efforts such as Timemania, Profut and the CBF club licensing manual. He said the new system is intended to move the game away from short-term public bailouts that were not matched by lasting changes in governance.
