Anthony Gordon backs Barcelona star Lamine Yamal to win Ballon d’Or | OneFootball

Several players across Europe had a very good last season, but none of them is a perfect candidate for the award, thus making this year’s Ballon d’Or particularly exciting. FC Barcelona have three players contending for this award, i.e., Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, and Rodri Hernandez.

Among these three players, Yamal seems best placed to win the award this year. He not only won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup with Barcelona last season, but also won the World Cup with Spain during the summer, and remained a key player for both his club and national sides during these campaigns.

Several individuals associated with the Blaugrana club, including Rodri himself, have backed the winger to win the award this year. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the latest to do so was the English forward Anthony Gordon, who addressed the press ahead of his England national team’s match against Spain, and took this opportunity to reveal his picks for the Ballon d’Or:

“For me, the Ballon d’Or has to go to one of those two, based on what they have achieved. It’s incredible what Lamine Yamal has achieved at such a young age, the kind of player he is. He is on a completely different level at the moment. For a 19-year-old to be doing what he is doing is crazy. When we talk about pure individual ability as a player, for me, he is undoubtedly number one.

But if we were talking about last season, Harry Kane has as strong a case as anyone because his season was historic. The number of goals he scored, the things he did for us at the World Cup. They both have strong cases. I’m not the right person to comment. It is difficult for me to give an opinion because I’m not at that level yet. But like you, I’m just a fan following the situation with both players. So I wish them both the very best of luck.”

Meanwhile, the English winger also praised Rodri:

When asked about Real Madrid, the Barcelona forward said with a smile:

“I watch all of Jude’s (Bellingham) matches hoping they lose.”

As Anthony Gordon highlighted, Lamine Yamal has a very good case to win the Ballon d’Or this year.
