Anthony Gordon talks Lamine, Rodri, Kane, Ballon d’Or: ‘He’s undoubtedly number one’ | OneFootball

Currently on international duty for England, Anthony Gordon recently made some comments on how Spanish football differs from English football.

His statements came ahead of Spain’s UEFA Nations League fixture against England on Saturday. In the same interaction, Gordon also offered his thoughts on the Ballon d’Or contenders.

This included comments on his teammates Lamine Yamal and Rodri, as well as Harry Kane, his teammate in the English national team.

Gordon lauds Lamine and Rodri

First and foremost, Gordon was in awe of Lamine Yamal, hailing the teenager as the best individual player in the world right now.

“It’s incredible what Lamine Yamal has accomplished at such a young age, the type of player he is. He’s on a completely different level right now. For a 19-year-old to be doing what he’s doing is insane,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

“When we’re talking about pure individual ability as a player, for me he’s undoubtedly number one,” he added.

The winger also reserved high praise for his other Barcelona teammate, Rodri, whom he had faced during the Spaniard’s time at Manchester City.

“Everyone in this country knows it and I don’t need to say anything. I’m happy to have him on my team because he’s a genius. I always felt when playing against him that he was a step ahead of me,” he said.

While backing Yamal’s individual brilliance, Gordon insisted his England teammate Harry Kane also has a compelling case for the Ballon d’Or.

“The Ballon d’Or, for me, has to go to one of these two in terms of what they’ve achieved. But if we’re talking about last season, Harry Kane has as strong a case as anyone because his season was historic.

“The number of goals he scored, the things he did for us at the World Cup. They both have strong arguments,” Gordon said.

The forward, however, was reluctant to pick a definitive winner.

“I’m not the right person to comment. It’s difficult for me to give an opinion because I’m not at that level yet. But like you, I’m just a fan who follows both players’ situations. So I wish them both the best of luck,” he concluded.

It is hard to blame Gordon for not taking sides, given that he is teammates with three of the four Ballon d’Or contenders this year.
