Anthony Martial has rejected a €10 million net-per-season offer from Al-Ittihad of Libya, a two-year deal with a €5 million signing-on bonus, while keeping Málaga in play, according to Foot Mercato.

Málaga cannot approach those numbers. LaLiga has set the squad cost limit at 33.634 million euros for 2026/27, the second lowest in Primera, ahead only of Sevilla on 20.161 million. The cap also covers bonuses, social charges, commissions and staff costs.

Martial, 30, is a free agent who can sign outside the window. There is no transfer fee, but his wages must fit Málaga’s remaining headroom.

On 15 September, administrator José María Muñoz said the finances are sound and timing is not an issue, while stressing that signings are a call for Loren Juarros. It signalled scope to explore, not a blank cheque.

Head coach Juanfran Funes said there is some room this season and recruitment is ongoing. He insisted any arrival must offer immediate impact, not weeks of conditioning.

The summer was frugal. Málaga made eight signings, paying about €300,000 for Juan Cruz’s loan from Leganés, with the rest loans or frees, preserving space after the deadline.

The gap to fellow promoted clubs is stark, with Racing on 53.183 million and Deportivo on 64.016 million. Whether Martial fits the finances and readiness criteria now rests with Juarros.
