Anton Stach said he was heartbroken following Leeds United’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, after a rapid comeback from an ankle injury. In a post on Instagram, he thanked supporters and added that the focus is now on staying in the league.

Daniel Farke introduced the German at half-time with Leeds trailing 1-0 to Enzo Fernandez’s 23rd-minute header. Stach almost levelled within minutes, a fierce shot from the edge of the area tipped over by Robert Sanchez.

The 27-year-old damaged ankle ligaments in the previous round at West Ham three weeks ago. He and Joe Rodon had been expected to be sidelined until May but both returned ahead of schedule. Stach logged 45 minutes at Wembley.

He resumed team training on Friday and, despite only two sessions, featured in the semi-final. His return gives Leeds an extra attacking option for the run-in.

The loss ends Leeds’ cup run, but they remain well-placed in their bid for Premier League survival. The first of four remaining fixtures is at home to Burnley on Friday night.
