Anton Stach says Daniel Farke should get credit for making Leeds competitive in the Premier League. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the midfielder believes the manager’s work has kept Leeds in games and fighting for points.
After promotion, Farke’s brief was to avoid the collapse that befell Leicester, Southampton and Ipswich a year earlier.
Leeds kept faith with Farke and signed for athleticism and resilience. He stressed they were footballers, not cloggers, and Stach has embodied it, a six foot four midfielder who wins duels and creates.
On Friday he earned a standing ovation when withdrawn on 70 minutes against Burnley. The win took Leeds to 43 points with a goal difference of minus five, leaving safety close.
November brought one win in seven before Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Two down at half-time at the Etihad, Farke switched to a back three and Leeds rallied in a 3-2 defeat, then beat Chelsea and drew with Liverpool to begin a seven-game unbeaten run. He downplays that night as a turning point.
Stach said unity mattered most, arguing it is easy to look good when you win and the test comes after defeats. He felt Leeds were in nearly every game, barring the Arsenal matches, and that Farke merits full credit. Elland Road sang his name after Burnley.
The job is not yet done, but Leeds would be safe without kicking a ball if Arsenal beat West Ham on Sunday. Their aim of being competitive has already been met.
