António Silva will only sign a new Benfica deal if he receives a pay rise and clear sporting assurances, according to Glorioso 1904. The stand-off has placed a key contract decision at the club’s door.
The 22-year-old defender has 176 appearances but is into the final year of his deal despite regular selection. Talks have dragged for months, complicated by recent episodes, including the goal conceded against Casa Pia.
A new contract could be worth around €4 million gross per season, about €2 million net, which would put him among the best paid. Even so, that may not be enough to keep him.
On the sporting side, after a standout 2022/2023 debut campaign, competition has increased and he has felt a loss of prominence. That has fed the idea he wants guarantees of status and continuity to reassert himself at Benfica.
With an active market and previous offers above €30 million, the scenario remains open. Benfica face three options, renew, negotiate a summer sale, or risk losing a valuable asset.
Silva is weighing his next step and whether to move to a more competitive league, something Gestifute approves.
