António Silva omitted as Jorge Jesus explains first Portugal squad choices | OneFootball

Jorge Jesus has named his first Portugal squad, with António Silva a notable omission for the opening four Nations League fixtures.

According to Glorioso 1904, the centre-backs selected are Ruben Dias, Tomás Araújo, Renato Veiga and Gonçalo Ignácio, leaving the former Benfica defender out.

Portugal start on 24 September against Wales at Alvalade, then travel to Norway three days later. They face Denmark on one October before hosting Wales at Estádio do Dragão.

Jesus said he had chosen to keep continuity at the heart of defence and had called only four centre-backs. He noted Tomás and Ruben have worked with him before, while the other two are just beginning under him.

He also backed Fábio Silva for the attack, highlighting a different profile and, compared with André Silva and Gonçalo Paciência, his age of 24. The head coach added that anyone selected could start.
