Jorge Jesus names first Portugal squad, Benfica trio included for Nations League openers | OneFootball

Jorge Jesus has named his first Portugal squad for the 2026/27 Nations League, with Benfica trio Samuel Soares, Tomás Araújo and João Palhinha included.

According to Glorioso 1904, the 72-year-old has issued his maiden list for the competition’s opening window.

It is a second senior call-up for goalkeeper Samuel Soares, who first joined the squad in March 2024. Palhinha returns after missing the World Cup.

Jesus will make his bow at Estádio de Alvalade on 24 September against Wales. Portugal then visit Norway on 27 September and Denmark on 1 October, before hosting Norway on 4 October to conclude the opening camp.

Eight other players with links to Benfica are also in, among them João Cancelo, Rúben Dias, Nuno Tavares, João Neves, Bernardo Silva, João Félix, Gonçalo Ramos and Fábio Silva.
