The appeal hearing for 19 supporters jailed over disorder around the Morocco v Senegal Africa Cup of Nations final has been postponed to 13 April.

They had hoped for reduced sentences on Monday, but will have to wait. The hearing was delayed at their lawyers’ request to better prepare the defence, according to L'Équipe.

The group comprises 18 Senegalese and one French national, accused of violence, damage and pitch invasions linked to the 18 January final.

For the Frenchman, the new date falls five days before his sentence ends. He was handed a three-month jail term on 19 February in the first instance. The court imposed custodial sentences ranging from three to 12 months.

On the night, Senegal won 1-0 after extra time on the pitch, before the Confederation of African Football later awarded the victory to Morocco. The Senegalese federation has since appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
