Dimitri Lipoff has heaped praise on OL Lyonnes striker Tabitha Chawinga ahead of Sunday night’s Africa Cup of Nations final between Malawi and Cameroon.
According to Le Progres, the Lyon-born coach, a friend since their time in the Chinese league, says Chawinga has become a destructive force and that a single marker will not contain her.
The pair first crossed paths in 2018, when Lipoff was at Dalian and Chawinga played for Jiangsu Suning. He recalls that containing her was a nightmare, and his side took the title only with difficulty.
They reunite on Sunday in a surprise showpiece, with Malawi reaching the final in their first participation and Cameroon contesting their fourth.
Lipoff’s globe-trotting career has been lined with success, and his admiration underlines the scale of the task opponents face against Chawinga.
