Madjid Bougherra attempted to defuse the frustration that followed Algeria's goalless draw with Sudan (0-0) in their opening match of the 2025 Arab Cup. Speaking at the press conference, the head coach emphasized the inherent difficulty of tournament openers and chose to view the result as a starting point rather than a misstep.

"The first match of any competition is always tough, given the pressure. The draw still keeps us right in the heart of the tournament. I'm staying optimistic," he stated.

The coach also broke down the flow of a contest that could have swung in the first half.

"In the first half, we had a chance to score, but we couldn't capitalize on it," he lamented,

while also praising the quality of a Sudanese side that surprised with their attacking intent. That bold approach, in his view, "created gaps in their defense"—but the Greens failed to exploit them.
