Cesar Peixoto made it clear after Joao Gomes’ departure to Aston Villa that he wanted reinforcements in the middle of the park, but, much to the frustration of the fans, Wolves had been slow in the market.

But, they ultimately got the midfielder they wanted, as James joined Wanderers on an initial loan deal from Rennes, with the Championship side having an option to make the move a permanent one.

With James having been named as Young Player of the Year in the Championship last season, most connected to Wolves are delighted to have got this deal over the line.

There had been plenty of competition for his signature, but the former Birmingham man decided to join the Molineux outfit, and he is certain to get a great reception from the 5,600 fans that are making the trip to Preston on Saturday.

And, it seems his arrival has also gone down well among the players, as Raul Jimenez liked the Instagram post where James was speaking to supporters after his transfer had gone through.

The striker was another summer signing for Wolves after sealing his return to the Black Country, and he scored on his first league appearance back in Old Gold in the 2-2 draw with Blackburn on Friday night.

Jordan James will be a huge player for Wolves this season

There had been a lot of frustration building up among the Wolves fan base at how slow the club have been in the market since the early additions of Jimenez and Kieran Trippier, particularly as Rafiki Said, the third new recruit, is out for the next few months.

Chairman Nathan Shi had outlined the need for Wolves to conduct their business early, so he is already coming under scrutiny considering that hasn’t happened.

Nevertheless, there’s no denying that James is a great signing for Wolves, and the players will recognise that the 22-year-old can bring so much to the team.

James scored 11 goals in 34 games last season for a Leicester City side that were relegated, and he will also add quality on the ball in the middle of the park.

The prospect of James linking up with Andre in the middle of the park, with Fer Lopez just in front, is one that will excite Wolves fans, and it’s down to Peixoto to get a tune out of this quality team.

Wolves must target more new signings in the calibre of Jordan James

Even though the Wolves squad is packed full of talent at this level, they are still short in a few areas.

At the moment, the options out wide are a major concern for Peixoto, whilst there are also doubts over the goalkeeping situation, and which central defenders will stick around.

So, some big decisions need to be made ahead of the deadline, and Wolves should be in a position to spend due to the money they have recouped in the previous two windows.

But, it’s not a case of adding players for the sake of it, and fans will hope that a few more signings of the calibre of James can arrive, which will then put Wolves in a great position to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
