The Morocco–Syria clash this Thursday in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Arab Cup promises to be a first on many levels, as it marks the inaugural official encounter between the two sides under FIFA's banner. Up until now, their meetings have only taken place in friendlies or unofficial tournaments, but the stakes are set to rise dramatically today in Doha.

Historically, Morocco has held all the cards: three matches, three wins. In 1963 at the Mediterranean Games (1–0), in 1977 during a friendly in Damascus (0–2), and again in 1981 in Casablanca (3–0). That's a clean sweep of dominance, unchallenged for nearly sixty years.

This fourth showdown, scheduled for December 11, 2025, could, however, rewrite the script. Syria comes into the match unbeaten in the group stage, while Morocco seeks to prove its status as tournament favorite. A showdown where history looms large… but offers no guarantees.
